Spireites first team coach Kevin Lynch praised the attitude of the squad after the 2-1 victory against Rochdale. He said: “I thought from start to finish the attitude was first class. We have had some great chances and we got our just rewards, so it has been a pleasing day at the office.
“Full credit goes to the players for the endeavour they showed because they never gave up. You will take however the goals come, whether they are penalties, set-pieces or in-play, but as I said it is very pleasing to get the three points today.”
Lynch also reserved special praise for match winner Eoin Doyle, who celebrated signing a new contract with the club by bagging a brace.
He said: “Doyle works tremendously hard both on and off the pitch. He will play anywhere you ask him to, he always gives 110% and through his hard work he gets the goals. Today he played up front, on the left and then went over to the right; we could not be more pleased for the lad.”
As well as complimenting Doyle’s performance, Lynch was quick to mention how satisfying it was to see Sam Hird in the starting eleven.
Lynch said: “We were disappointed to lose Liam Cooper but we all know what a good player Sam is. He has come in and has not looked out of place, and the partnership that he and Ian Evatt are building is already a credit to them both.”
