Spireites Face The Daggers

21 April 2014

Chesterfield travel to the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium to take on Dagenham & Redbridge on Monday afternoon in their 44th fixture of the 2013/14 Sky Bet League 2 season.

The Daggers are currently 11th in the League 2 table having taken 57 points from 43 games, defeating Torquay United 1-0 in their last outing at Plainmoor. Medy Elito's second half penalty proved enough to separate the sides and push Torquay closer to League 2 relegation.

Wayne Burnett's side have been in indifferent form of late; winning two, drawing two and losing two of their last six league games. With just three games of the League 2 season remaining, the Daggers are seven points short of the play-off places so look set for a mid-table 2013/14 finish.

Chesterfield approach Saturday's game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Exeter City at the Proact Stadium on Saturday. Matt Grimes' deflected first half free-kick was cancelled out when Eoin Doyle won and converted a 78th minute penalty to send the sides home level.

The draw meant Chesterfield remained two points behind League 2 leaders Scunthorpe, while Fleetwood Town in fourth place closed the gap between them and the Spireites to just three points.

Chesterfield and Dagenham & Redbridge meet for the second time this season after the sides shared a 1-1 draw in the late December clash at the Proact Stadium. Marc Richards put the home side ahead from the penalty spot before Aby Ogogo levelled with a spectacular strike just ten minutes later.

Victory for Chesterfield on Saturday could see the Spireites move to the top of the Sky Bet League 2 table and extend the gap between themselves and the play-off positions to six points depending on results elsewhere.

Team News
Drew Talbot remains sidelined after he suffered a recurrence of the abductor injury that has kept him out of action for a number of weeks.

Ollie Banks will not feature against the Daggers as the young midfielder has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2013/14 campaign following the injury he picked up in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Peterborough.

Sam Morsy received a straight red card during Chesterfield's 1-1 draw with Exeter City on Saturday afternoon and will serve the first of his three-match ban against the Daggers on Monday.

After accumulating ten yellow cards, Jimmy Ryan served the second of his two-match ban against the Grecians on Saturday and is now available for selection.
