A spectacular 25-yard effort has ensured Chesterfield’s Jimmy Ryan has become the latest winner of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish competition.

The 25-year-old produced a rocket shot to give his side a 3-1 victory over Fleetwood Town in the Northern Area Final first leg.

The Spireites eventually ran out 3-2 aggregate winners to secure an appearance in the final at Wembley, where they were edged out 3-1 by Peterborough United.

Ryan was one of three players nominated for the Ultimate Finish Area Final award, along with his team-mate Sam Morsy and Peterborough’s Britt Assombalonga.

Nick Cartwright was the lucky supporter winner selected at random from all the people who voted for Ryan and wins an iPod Shuffle.

“To score in a game which helped Chesterfield get through to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley was a dream come true for me,” said a delighted Ryan.

“It was a great team effort to get past Fleetwood and get to the final, even if the scoreline wasn’t quite what we wanted at Wembley.”

Ryan follows Bristol City’s Joe Bryan, Portsmouth’s Patrick Agyemang, Conor Washington of Newport and Fleetwood Town’s Conor McLaughlin in winning this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish awards.

The goals will also feature in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish of the Season competition, which will be launched next week.

“Our congratulations go to Jimmy,” said Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone’s Paint. “It was an excellent goal and one which graced such a big game.”

The nearest Johnstone’s Decorating Centre to Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium can be found on Britannia Road, S40 2TZ.
