Fundraising for the proposed £35,000 Memorial Garden at the Proact is now in full swing.Generous supporters contributed £1,308.70 via a bucket collection at yesterday's game versus Newport County whilst two businesses - John Church Planning Services of Clay Cross and JJM Financial from Leicester - both confirmed their sponsorship of the project, each donating £500.
The Supporters Club hopes to attract 20 such business sponsorships, with each donator being acknowledged with the Memorial Garden.
Denise James, who helped with the bucket collection in the lounges at the Proact, also presented a cheque to Supporters Club treasurer Jane Umney, representing the profits raised at the recent 1969/70 and 1984/85 'Champions Evening' held in the Legends Lounge. 'Bucketeer' Bob Newton, who is taking an active interest in the project, also features in the photograph.
A total of £700 will go to the Memorial Garden fund with the remaining £155 being used to kick-off the Former Players' Association, to help with the organisation of future events involving former players.
Supporters who collect Spireites memorabilia can find two great lots currently on eBay to help raise further funds. Match-worn Tommy Lee gloves and Franck Moussa's long-sleeved green away shirt from 2012 can both be found on the auction site, ending next weekend, so please bid away!
You can also donate online via the Just Giving site at www.justgiving.com/memorial-garden or via text by sending GARD02 or GARD £10 to 70070.
Designed to provide an area for family and friends to remember former Spireites supporters, as well as commemorating Chesterfield FC players and officials killed in the two World Wars, the Memorial Garden will be sited opposite The Hub at the back of the Spencers Solicitors Community Stand. The scheme is the initiative of the Supporters Club.
