Exploratory surgery has revealed the injury that forced Nathan Smith to miss Saturday's game against Accrington Stanley is not serious.
Smith went under the surgeon's knife to allow medics to determine the extent of the problem and it turned out that it is a legacy of the ankle injury which kept him out for the final few months of last season.
Physio Jamie Hewitt said: "No major surgery was required, which is good news. They found a bit of scar tissue in the ankle joint so he's had it all cleaned out. He's out of hospital now and on crutches."
It is not yet known how long last season's Player of the Year will be out of action. "We'll assess him at the end of the week and have a better idea of time-scale then," added Hewitt.
