First team coach, Kevin Lynch, is delighted to see the hard work being put in on the training ground paying off on a Saturday afternoon.

After Saturday's 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, extending Chesterfield's lead at the top of the League 2 table to four points, Lynch explained his delight at the players' effort and commitment.

“Full credit to the players today, they worked tremendously hard and played some excellent football," he said before adding: “It’s so pleasing to see, when the players take what we’re working on at the training ground and put it into practice on the field of play.”

Chesterfield took the lead 30 minutes into the first half after an inch perfect Jay O'Shea cross was met by Gary Roberts at the back post, providing the midfielder with his fourth goal of the season.

The first team coach said: “We’ve worked on the quality of delivery, whereabouts to deliver, where it hurts teams. It was a fantastic ball in by O’Shea and a well taken goal.

“There’s a real buzz about the place, they’re a great bunch of lads but it’s still early on in the season and our feet are firmly on the ground.”

The Dons approached Saturday's fixture third place in the League 2 table and on the back of a three game winning streak. Lynch took time to praise Wimbledon's approach to the game.

“A lot of credit must be given to Wimbledon, they’ve come here not to sit back behind the ball and made a really good game of it," said the Liverpudlian.

After joining the Spireites back room staff in the summer, the first team coach couldn't be happier with his move to the Proact. He explained: “From the chairman right down to the support that we’ve got, it’s a fantastic club and hopefully we can take it in the right direction.”
