The Spireites prevailed 4-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lincoln City at Cylinders Sports Ground on Tuesday afternoon.Goals from Sam Togwell and Eoin Doyle (3) were enough to see off the challenge of The Imps in a cold and wet afternoon at the Chesterfield training ground.
Speaking after the game, first team coach, Kevin Lynch was pleased with players work ethic throughout the match. He said: “Everyone’s showing a great attitude, there’s quality in this team and we need that.
“It’s a great workout for the lads, we need to keep everyone in tip top shape.”
A number of first team players that featured on Saturday against Accrington Stanley had time on the pitch during the friendly. Lynch commended the desire of the team: “Any player will tell you they’d rather play football than train, that’s why we put these games on.
“We were going to have a different training day for the players that played on Saturday but they want to play, all we’ve got to do is monitor them.”
Doyle has scored in all three friendlies held since the start of the season, adding to his competitive goal tally of two. The Liverpudlian admitted that's it's hard to keep the striker out of the starting line-up.
“He may be frustrated but it’s professional football and we’re winning. He’s doing his chances no harm, he’s got a great attitude, great professionalism, we’re only early on in the season and I’m sure that he’ll play a big part," explained Lynch.
He added: “People like Ian, Eoin and Armand, all they’ve got to do is stay patient, stay positive, keep in good shape and I’m sure that they’ll get their chance.”
