Actress and TV presenter Sarah-Jane Honeywell officially opened the new Chester’s Den play centre in The Hub at the Proact on Saturday.

Sarah-Jane, who presented CBeebies shows on the BBC, was joined by her partner, Hollyoaks star Ayden Callaghan.

“I think it’s great that the club has developed this type of facility at the stadium,” said Sarah-Jane. “I wish there had been a Chester’s Den around when I was a kid!

“We were given a tour of The Hub - which also features a hydrotherapy pool and fitness suite – and it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s a facility that can be used by the whole community and it’s a model that I think other football clubs should follow.”

The Hub also incorporates a multi-purpose sports and community room, learning zones, offices and a café.

The pioneering facility has been built at a cost of £1.5m with the aid of a £350,000 grant from the Premier League Community Facility Fund, together with loans from social lenders. It is managed by the Chesterfield FC Community Trust, which is a registered charity.
