The Spireites youth team suffered a narrow defeat in the quarter-finals of the Midland Youth Cup on Tuesday night, losing 2-1 against Lincoln City.

Chesterfield found themselves 2-0 down at half-time in the tie, which was played at Staveley Miners Welfare's Inkersall Road ground.

It was an improved performance from Mark Smith's side after the re-start and they pulled a goal back when Alex Hewitt tucked away a penalty. The referee pointed to the spot after Mitch Mullins was adjudged to have been fouled inside the area.

There were chances at either end but Chesterfield were unable to force an equaliser.

Chesterfield line-up: McCready, Massey, McNicholas, Mullins (Mathers 80), Dakwa, Maguire, Bayne, Coy, Beesley (Partridge 45), Johnson, Brock (Hewitt 45). Unused subs: Edridge & Mason.
