Spireites defender Drew Talbot claimed that the team needs to start turning draws into wins if they are to move up the Sky Bet League 2 table.
Chesterfield's winless run was extended to seven games after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United and Talbot was disappointed that the lead was lost in the 88th minute.
“To concede a goal at any time of the game is not great but 88 minutes is sloppy from us," he said before adding: “It’s something we’re going to have to rectify quickly if we’re going to move up the table.
“We all know the division can throw anything up sometimes. It’s up to us to knuckle down, figure out what’s going on and turn these draws into wins so we can move clear.”
After taking the lead within the opening ten minutes of Saturday's game, Chesterfield had a number of opportunities to double their advantage but could not capitalise on any.
Talbot said: “We’ve had chances, it seems like we manage to get one goal but the other ones aren’t coming which is what we need.
“Sometimes you need that extra goal to give us defenders that little bit of cushion but that’s no excuse really. We started off well but the score-line doesn’t remember that, it’s just a 1-1.”
The versatile full-back played his first game against the Iron after returning from injury and is now looking forward to being fully fit. “I’ve not really trained that much, I’ve had to manage myself this week. I just want to get back playing and get this cleared up," said the 27-year-old.
