Spireites Travel to Newport

Chesterfield travel to Rodney Parade to take on Newport County in their 19th fixture of the 2013/14 Sky Bet League 2 season.

Overview

The Exiles are currently 8th in the League 2 table having taken 28 points from 18 games, drawing 0-0 with Oxford United in their last outing at Kassam Stadium.

Having being promoted from the Conference Premier at the end of last season, Newport have enjoyed a strong start to the 2013/14 campaign taking 16 points from their last ten games leaving the Exiles just outside the play off positions. 

Chesterfield approach this fixture on the back of a 0-0 draw with Northampton Town at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday night following on from a 2-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

The Spireites are currently unbeaten in eight games in all competitions and haven't conceded a goal in give straight games, they will be looking to continue this strong form at Rodney Parade on Sunday afternoon.

Chesterfield have not faced Newport County since the club was reformed in 1989. However, the Spireites faced Newport in its old entity 34 times and have only drawn with the Welsh side once.

Chesterfield
Sam Morsy (knee) is still recovering from the injury picked up against Bristol Rovers and will be unavailable for Sunday. However, the midfielder is making strong progress and is likely to return earlier than expected.

Nathan Smith (ankle) is still recovering from a recurrence of his long-term problem and will miss out on the game against Newport County.
