Spireites midfielder Sam Morsy will be unavailable for six to eight weeks after tearing his MCL against Bristol Rovers last weekend.

Morsy, who has been one of Chesterfield's centrepieces this season was substituted just before the half hour mark at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday as a result of his injury.

The 22-year-old was taken for a scan earlier this week which discovered the medial collateral ligament tear.

Speaking about the injury, first team coach Kevin Lynch said: "It's a big loss for the team, Samy's been an integral part of how we've been playing so far this season.

"It is now an opportunity for others to come into the squad and earn their place in the starting 11."
