Football fans will be able to see some stars of the past in action in a charity match this weekend.
Former Sheffield Wednesday stars Julian Watts, Mark Smith and Matt Hamshaw are among those set to turn out at Sheffield FC’s Coach & Horses ground in Dronfield on Sunday, alongside ex-Sheffield United favourites Paul Beesley, Rob Kozuk and Steve Charles.
The match, which is in aid of Academy Africa, will see an All-Stars XI take on a team of Chesterfield legends featuring David Reeves, Jon Howard, Tony Lormor and Jamie Hewitt. Kick-off is at 2pm and admission is £5 (adults) and £1 (juniors).
Academy Africa is a UK-based charity which sees coaches sharing their skills and knowledge with professional and non-professional teams in Uganda, as well as providing football equipment.
One of the Academy Africa coaches, Ashley Foyle, said: “We’re going out to Jinja in Uganda for 12 days later this month. We’ll be visiting visiting schools and villages and going to a new centre to put on a mini course for coaches, helping them to put sessions on.”
Any donations of kit or equipment would be welcomed by the charity. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to help. For more information about the charity, visit www.academyafrica.com.
