Bookings are now being taken by the Chesterfield FC Community Trust for places on an innovative foundation course in driving and highway safety.
The six-week Inspired Young Drivers course introduces youngsters to basic driving skills with fully qualified Advanced Driving Instructors in the safe confines of the Proact Stadium.
The course covers various practical elements including how to change a wheel, cockpit routine, basic car maintenance and how to deal with a breakdown and hazard perception. There is also a very important session on driver responsibility, which explores issues around passengers, pedestrians and other road users.
Community Trust chief John Croot said: “Young people are statistically more likely to be involved in a serious road accident when they first start driving and car accidents are the main cause of death in the under 25s.
“Courses such as this have been proven to reduce these terrible statistics in a number of countries around the world including Sweden and the USA.”
There are no age restrictions but it is recommend that participants are aged 15 and over so that they can reach the pedals!
