Spireites boss Paul Cook was pleased with his side's response after a 1-0 win over promotion-chasing Burton Albion.
Chesterfield suffered a heart-wrenching 2-1 defeat against struggling Torquay United at Plainmoor in their last outing but the Liverpudlian's side bounced back with a hard-fought win over Gary Rowett's Brewers.
Drew Talbot's goal of the season contender in the second half gave the visitors all three points, as Town move within seven points of the play-off places with just six games remaining in April.
"At times we played well today, but we didn't create too many clear-cut chances," Cookie told Spireites Player after the game.
"A criticism of teams that pass the ball well is that they don't penetrate and sometimes when you get in positions that Drew [Talbot] did to shoot and score, it was one of those ones that the moment he hit it you knew it was in.
"That was pleasing today because the Torquay defeat was a hammer blow for everyone at the club, there's no getting away from it.
"If we'd have won that night, we'd have had that momentum now of that team winning five out of six. But unfortunately we lost and we hold our hands up.
"We don't hide from criticism at this club. Our club will go forward irrespective of who is manager or chairman."
Burton Albion have been in sensational form on home soil, registering a staggering nine successive wins at the Pirelli Stadium.
The hosts found themselves two points behind the third and final automatic promotion spot with a game in hand over Northampton Town, but their own promotion hopes took a huge dent courtesy of Talbot's pile-driver.
But Cook was ecstatic with his side's performance, having dominated for large periods in Staffordshire.
"We go to games like today against a really good Burton side, who have been unplayable at home.
"Make no bones about it, they've scored a lot of goals at home and beat a lot of teams. Today, we've limited them to very few chances that I can remember and I thought at times we dominated.
"To limit teams to chances like that, you have got to work hard and we had some good performances today"
