Spireites Youth Team Coach, Mark Smith, believes the new-look coaching team are making positive steps in taking the club forward.Smith, who was introduced as part of the new backroom set-up in early May feels that the team are quickly building relationships and sharing their plans for the development of the football club.
“It’s really good that you get together, meet new people and they’ve all got different ideas," said the Youth Team Coach. “I’ll learn off them and I’m sure they’ll pick up bits and pieces from me. We look a really positive group with the main aim of improving Chesterfield.”
Looking forward to the upcoming season with the Spireites scholars, Smith intends to get to know the young squad and see if there are any areas for improvement. “The main thing for me this season will just be a review of the situation, look at the players we have got and seeing if we can improve them," said Smith.
He added: "“My task is to see how they respond to a new voice and a slightly different way of doing things. It will be interesting and I’m sure the kids will enjoy it.”
The Youth Team Coach was clear in outlining his intentions for the team: “We’ll be trying our best just to give them every opportunity to make a career in football, because that’s what it’s all about.”
