John Windle has once again pledged his commitment to the Spireites by purchasing a couple of season tickets - despite living in New Zealand!John, who was born in Chesterfield, moved 'down under' with his Kiwi wife ten years ago. "We live on a peninsula about 35 minutes north of Auckland and our house is on the cliff overlooking the Hauraki Gulf, from where we can see all the ships going into Auckland," he says.
"I was a Centre Stand season ticket holder at Saltergate and took out another ticket for my elder daughter.
"When the club transferred to Whittington Moor, I still took out the two season tickets, even though my daughter had died by then (she is, however, remembered there as I purchased a memorial brick in the wall for her and another for my wife and I)."
John explains why he still buys season tickets, despite living so far away, saying: "I believe in supporting my team through all their efforts, unlike some who support those who are at the top of the Premiership.
"I will continue to do so for as long as I can and also sponsor them for goals. Have to admit I don't get to the Proact very often as the summers over here tend to be a big attraction instead of an English winter.
"My Leeds United friend, who lives in Holymoorside, has now seen the light and he looks after my tickets for me.
"We are both in Rotary and if any members from his club fancy going to a match he charges them to use my ticket and then puts the money into the Rotary Foundation, from where it is used for charitable purposes."
John adds that, much to his surprise, he has found that a local hairdresser also supports the Spireites. "She wasn't born in Chesterfield but she was brought up in Wingerworth and we have regular chats about how the team is doing," he explains.
Many thanks, John - your long-distance support is very much appreciated!
