16-year-old Mason Coy has signed a two-year scholarship with the Spireites.
Coy, who has played as part of Derby County's academy side for over nine years, attracted attention from a number of clubs but decided to commit his near future to Chesterfield. The youngster is Gerry Carr's first signing since arriving at the Proact Stadium and is somewhat of a coup for the Academy Director.
"He's a technically gifted player so it's very pleasing that he's decided to sign for Chesterfield. After speaking to Chris Turner and myself, he's bought into the football philosophy we're trying to create here, from the first team down," said Carr.
The Academy Director added: "It's a statement of intent for our academy, he was a much sought after player that we've taken from under the noses of other clubs."
