Summer signings Jimmy Ryan and Eoin Doyle were among the scorers as the Spireites began their pre-season programme with a 3-0 win at Buxton.

On a glorious afternoon in the Derbyshire town, Armand Gnanduillet opened the scoring in the closing stages of the first-half before Ryan and Doyle found the net after the re-start.

Paul Cook included trialists Ben Parker, Ritchie Humphreys, Conor Clifford, Jamie Devitt and Abdul in his starting line-up and replaced all the outfield players for the second-half.

After the hosts had a goal ruled-out for off-side, Tendayi Darikwa had Chesterfield's first real opening, but he failed to connect properly with the ball after it had been swung over from Humphreys on the left and keeper Tom Turner made an easy save.

Sam Hird shot over and Devitt had a chance when Gnanduillet pulled the ball back to him but the former Hull City player scuffed his shot wide.

Gnanduillet tried a low shot from distance which was no problem for Turner and Darikwa put a shot off-target.

Clifford, who started out at Chelsea and has latterly been at Leicester City, shot just over following a surging run down the right from Darikwa.

Gnanduillet opened the scoring with a deflected shot in the 43rd minute following Devitt's cross from the right.

Cook, as planned, started the second-half with a completely different side apart from keeper Aaron Chapman.

The replacements included on-trial Marine pair Matt Brown and John Shaw, along with new recruits Ryan, Doyle, Sam Morsy and Gary Roberts.

Morsy fired over shortly after the re-start before Ryan (54) scored with a superb 25-yard effort after the ball had been chested down by Jay O'Shea.

Doyle (65) completed the scoring, following up to turn home the loose ball after Roberts' audacious effort from distance was tipped onto the bar by Turner.

O'Shea put a couple of efforts over in the closing stages and Roberts also cleared the bar with a shot.

Young keeper Cameron Mason took over in goal in the 81st minute and fellow youth team players Laurence Maguire and Oliver Brock also came on for the last couple of minutes.

First-half line-up: Chapman, Abdul, Hird, Broadhead, Parker, Darikwa, Togwell, Humphreys, Clifford, Devitt, Gnanduillet.

Second-half line-up: Chapman (81), Talbot, Brown, Cooper (Maguire 88), Shaw, O'Shea, Ryan (Brock 88), Morsy, Roberts, Richards, Doyle.
