Jamie Devitt has signed a six-month contract with Chesterfield after impressing during pre-season.After being released from Hull City earlier this Summer, Devitt has put pen to paper to sign for the Spireites and becomes Paul Cook's eighth summer acquisition.
“I knew the gaffer from my time at Accrington and we’ve been in contact ever since. He brought me here for pre-season and I think I’ve done well,” said Devitt.
The midfielder has impressed throughout Chesterfield's pre-season programme and caught the supporters attention with a sublime free-kick against Huddersfield Town to win the game for the Spireites.
After signing for the club, Devitt said: “I’m delighted to be here, I can see that it’s a club going places and I can’t wait to get started with the gaffer and the lads. I think it will be a good combination.”
Speaking about Devitt, Chief Executive, Chris Turner said: "Paul's known Jamie for a long time and his ability's never been in question. We've got a lot of talented footballers and Jamie certainly falls into that category.
"Jamie is in the Sammy Morsy, Gary Roberts, Jimmy Ryan bracket and he's been brought in to compete for his place and provide competition for others," added Turner.
Though Devitt's contract is six months, the Chief Executive believes it will act as an incentive for the player and the contract could be extended within a matter of weeks.
"We just want to give him an incentive to get into the team, to establish himself in the squad and it may turn into a longer term contract within weeks or months of today," said Turner.
