Three cyclists passed through the Proact Stadium today as they attempt to visit all 92 Football League grounds to raise money for charity.
Chesterfield were club number 80 on David Clarke and Peter Cooper’s journey as they plan to travel 2400 miles and raise £10,000 for the charity Edgar’s Gift, set up in memory of David’s step-brother Ben who died aged 25 from cancer.
Clarke decided on the ride after thinking of ways to raise money for the charity. He said: “Being big football fans we wanted to do something and tried to make it football related.”
The charity helps cancer sufferer’s between the age of 18 and 30 by giving them luxury gifts, days out and unique experiences. Cooper said he feels the charity works wonders for sufferers: “It’s ranged from different things, a lot of iPads and stuff but it really shines a light into a cancer sufferer’s life.”
They have raised £7000 so far and are to hold an auction at the end full of gifts from the 92 football clubs. The cycle finishes at Old Trafford tomorrow where they plan to give their kit to the Football Museum.
