Some of the trialists who have been at the club in recent weeks will be given another chance to shine in Saturday's first home pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Town. The likes of Conor Clifford, Ritchie Humphreys, Matty Brown and John Shaw - who all played in last weekend's game at Buxton - are all set to turn out.
Frenchman Hendrick Cakin, who played in the private practice match against Lincoln City earlier this week, will also be given a run-out.
Manager Paul Cook admits that not all of the players who have been on trial figure in his plans, but adds that he and his coaching staff are "still looking at one or two" of them. "When you bring lads in, we have a level of what we're looking for. Some have done well and others not so well," he said.
Cook viewed the matches against Buxton and Lincoln as an extension of the training programme, pointing out that the games against Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest and Wolves will see them step up their preparations for the start of the new season.
"It's about sharpening ourselves up in preparation for Bury," said Cook. "We want to gradually get better and stronger so that when we face Bury, we're good to go. I think it'll be a really good test against some strong teams."
