The reserves beat Hartlepool 3-1 at the Proact on Wednesday afternoon. Jacob Hazel gave the Spireites an early lead with triallists Kristian Ramsey-Dickson and Ashley Sammons also hitting the back of the net.

Ramsey-Dickson and Sammons were among five triallists in the side, lining up alongside Jordan Keane, Michael Bryan and Devann Yao.

Yao was the first to threaten inside the opening five minutes when he ran at the defence and looked set to score but his shot was blocked.

After Sammons had a free-kick blocked and Hazel headed over, the latter opened the scoring in the eighth minute, seizing a stray ball from Nathan Buddle inside the area before slotting past keeper Adam McHugh.

Josh Scully was forced to go off after a quarter of an hour after receiving lengthy treatment with Jordan Slack taking his place.

The lively Yao struck the defensive wall with a free-kick and Hazel had a shot deflected wide.

Hartlepool's Brad Walker put a long-range effort over and when Luke James threatened in the area, Jamie McNicholas made an important block.

Hazel went close to scoring a second goal, forcing McHugh to save down at the foot of his right-hand post after good work from Yao.

Chesterfield finished the half strongly with Ramsey-Dickson having a long-range shot saved and then hitting a post.

It was 2-0 when a good ball from Yao picked out Ramsey-Dickson (41) who burst through the middle and produced a good finish.

After the re-start, Yao tried a 20-yard effort which was turned wide before Hartlepool pulled a goal back through James (53) who scored from close-range after the defence failed to clear a cross from the left.

Sammons (72) made it 3-1 with a fine 20-yard effort which curled away from the keeper into the top corner of the net.

Josh Barrington was forced to save from James, Zak Boagey and Greg Rutherford in the latter stages of the game while an Aaron Brown shot hit the side-netting.
