24 December 2013

Chesterfield will host Hartlepool United on Boxing Day in their 22nd fixture of the 2013/14 League 2 campaign.

Overview

The Spireites come into Thursday's game following back-to-back 2-0 wins over Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City. Chesterfield have now taken 13 points from their last six league games and following victory at St James Park on Friday the North Derbyshire side reclaimed the League 2 top spot.

The win moved Chesterfield into pole position on Friday evening and with Oxford United failing to take all three points from York City on Saturday, the Spireites remained top of the pile, 13 places and 12 points above Thursday's opponents, Hartlepool United.

Pools approach this fixture having taken six points from their last six league games, drawing 1-1 with the Brewers in their last outing at Victoria Park. The County Durham side haven't won in four consecutive league games and will be looking to end the winless streak at the Proact Stadium on Boxing Day.

Hartlepool last visited Chesterfield in November last year where a scintillating Spireites side knocked six past Pools with six different goal scorers in an emphatic FA Cup win.

Team News

Chesterfield
Liam Cooper (ankle) and Nathan Smith (ankle) have both participated in training this week and look likely to be available for the Boxing Day fixture.

Both Sam Morsy (knee) and Armand Gnanduillet (shoulder) made a return to the first team squad for Chesterfield's trip to Exeter City and will be able to feature against Hartlepool United.

Gary Roberts (hamstring), Jimmy Ryan (shoulder) and Aaron Chapman (knee) have all been confirmed as missing out on Thursday's game due to their respective injuries.
