Spireites midfielder, Gary Roberts, is pleased with the strong start to the season but knows there is still a long way to go.

Chesterfield have taken maximum points from the opening two games of the season and have done so without conceding a goal, but Roberts knows it's still very early.

In an interview with Spireites Player, he said: “We’ll keep our feet on the ground, there’s 44 games to go so we can’t get too big for our boots at the minute.

“It’s early doors, the lads area still buzzing. Everyone’s excited, everyone’s looking forward to games and they can’t come quick enough.”

The former Swindon man scored his first competitive goal for the Spireites against Cheltenham Town and was pleased to get on the score sheet. He said: “Once you get into one-on-one situations you look to use your quality and get a goal so it was nice to get off the mark.

“I’m just enjoying my football more than I have done the last couple of years and I think that shows on the pitch.”

The midfielder believes that Chesterfield have a strong attacking presence and are a threat from all areas of the team. “We try to open teams up because we know we’ve got players in the team who can score goals," explained Roberts.
