Dagenham Defeat Spireites

Despite fielding high-profile new signing Luis Boa Morte from the start, it was a disappointing afternoon for the Spireites as they went down to a defeat following two goals from Sam Williams, either side of Jack Lester’s equaliser.

Boa Morte created the first real opening of the match, sending over a fifth minute corner which found Neal Trotman but the defender headed over.

Boa Morte swapped flanks at various stages in the half and showed some quality touches but it was the visitors who had the better of the half.

Dwight Gayle put a low shot just wide and Medy Eliton then played a ball across the face of goal but there was no-one there to apply the finish.

Gayle header over from an Abu Ogogo cross and Williams threatened in the area but Terrell Forbes closed him down and Trotman cleared.

Luke Wilkinson put a long-range effort wide before the Daggers took a 42nd minute lead.

Williams found himself in some space around 25 yards out and he fired in a low shot which went inside Richard O’Donnell’s right-hand post.

The Spireites made a bright start to the second-half and were unlucky not to equalise in the 51st minute when Lester’s over-head kick struck the bar.

Trotman then headed wide and Lester had a shot saved before the veteran striker found the back of the net in the 54th minute.

Craig Westcarr drilled in a low shot-cum-cross and Lester was there at the far post to steer the ball past Lewington.

Dagenham regained the lead just three minutes later when Williams fired into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.

Williams threatened to complete his hat-trick moments later when he shot straight at O’Donnell.

Lester had an effort cleared off the line and Boa Morte threatened to mark his debut with a goal when he got on the end of a Westcarr cross but Lewington read the situation well and made a brave block.

O’Donnell saved a low shot from Gayle before his opposite number did well to keep out a header from Forbes.
