Paul Cook watched his side put on an exhibition of attacking football at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday night, as they ran out 4-1 winners over high-flying Cheltenham Town.
The Spireites dominated proceedings for more or less the entire game and looked as though they could score with every attack.
Cook expressed his delight at the performance and made it clear that he wants that level of performance every week.
Speaking to Spireites Player after the game, he said: “We’re working hard on the shape of the team and how we want to play. We want to be strong defensively and we must counter-attack with pace and energy. When you do that you’ll hurt teams.
“I want to play open, attractive football. We want to move the ball quickly and penetrate.
“The competition at this club must be healthy. You must want to get in the team and when you get in that team you must want to stay in it.
“We want to attack but we must be built on a solid base as well. Our shape was a lot better tonight and our desire to win the game was there for everybody to see.
“We must focus on what we’re trying to do and Plymouth on Saturday now becomes our biggest game of the season.”
