Chesterfield have allowed defender Liam Ridehalgh to make an early return to Huddersfield Town following a spell on loan.
Ridehalgh, who also had a temporary stint at the Proact Stadium last season, rejoined the Spireites in August and had been due to remain at the club until this weekend.
But with Nathan Smith holding down the left-back spot in recent weeks, manager Paul Cook has decided he is surplus to requirements.
Cook said: “We felt it would only be fair to allow him to try and get fixed up with another loan move before Thursday’s deadline. Liam has served us well during the two spells he’s had here and we wish him well for the future.”
Ridehalgh, 21, scored one goal in 20 appearances for the Spireites last term and has made 14 appearances this season.
