Cook Pleased With Character

Manager Paul Cook says that the character his team showed to come from behind to beat Oxford on Saturday was the main positive to come from the game.

The visitors took the lead with barely a minute on the clock and went on to dominate the opening exchanges.

Chesterfield steadied themselves and found a way back into the game on the stroke of half-time before a late Chris Atkinson strike ensured all three points, points that looked unlikely at one stage.

Cook admitted that his side's start to the game was poor but praised both the support from the fans and the team's character which helped the Spireites run out winners.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: "The support has been great. We couldn't have started any worse [against Oxford], from the Barnet game where we didn't play at any tempo, we weren't allowed to on Saturday.

"The goals have a detrimental effect on your team, no matter what anyone says. Normally the team who scores first does not get beat. That was one of the most positive things from Saturday, we came from behind.

"For the next fifteen/twenty minutes [after Oxford's goal] we were awful, we were absolutely awful. The confidence levels drained and what we were trying to do went out the window.

"Somehow we dragged ourselves back into the game and I think the players showed great character to do that."

The programme of back-to-back home games sees high-flying Cheltenham Town visit the Proact Stadium tomorrow night.

The Robins narrowly missed out on promotion last season, losing in the play-off final to Crewe Alexandra.

Despite losing 4-2 at Rotherham at the weekend, Cheltenham has been impressive all season and the Spireites boss knows it'll be a tough night.

"All over the pitch they're [Cheltenham Town] strong. They've got very very good League Two players, hence the play-off final at Wembley.

"In my opinion, a fantastic manager [Mark Yeates] at our level, a really good manager

"They're a good club, a strong club going in the right direction, it really is a difficult game for us tomorrow night but one we expect to win."
