Chris Atkinson has returned to his parent club Huddersfield Town after his loan deal with Chesterfield expired.
The midfielder joined in September and has been in impressive form since arriving at the Proact Stadium, scoring 5 goals in 14 games.
The goals he scored proved to be important strikes for Chesterfield, notching the winning goals in the games against Aldershot Town, Exeter City and Oxford United. In fact, the Spireites won every game in which Chris Atkinson found the net.
Atkinson's loan deal was due to expire after Saturday's win at Plymouth and central midfield problems at the Galpharm Stadium prevented a likely extension being completed.
The Terriers are light in the middle of the park after they had Keith Southern sent off in the weekend's draw with Charlton and Adam Clayton picked his fifth yellow card, earning him a one match suspension.
