Assistant manager Tommy Wright was full of praise for the players after he watched the Spireites storm to a 6-1 victory over Staveley Miners Welfare.
Goals from Scott Boden, Jordan Bowery, Tendayi Darikwa, Mark Randall and a brace from young striker Jacob Hazel gave Chesterfield a comprehensive win over the Baris NCEL Premier Division side.
It was the first taste of match action since returning for pre-season training and Wright was impressed with how the players went about their business.
He said: "It was a good run out. The players showed the right attitude; it was a very hot day and it'll be good for fitness.
"It gets the sharpness in and that's what they need. It was a good workout for both teams."
Three players who are currently training with the Spireites, Chris Sedgwick, Alan Quinn and Manny Panther, all featured in the game and Tommy spoke positively about their contribution.
"It's hard to judge because it's the first game and everybody is a bit rusty, but I think everybody did well," he said.
"We moved the ball well and I thought everybody contributed to a good performance."
The next pre-season fixture is on Tuesday at Matlock Town.
