Chesterfield have completed the signing of central midfielder Sam Togwell on a two-year deal.
The 27-year-old was a free agent following his release from League One side Scunthorpe United.
Togwell started his career at Crystal Palace where he made four appearances, which included coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win over then European Champions Liverpool in 2005.
He joined Barnsley in 2006 and was a key figure for the South Yorkshire club during his debut season, playing 46 times.
Togwell helped Barnsley reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup before moving to
Scunthorpe in 2008, helping them win promotion to the Championship in his first season.
He went on to make 176 appearances in a four-year spell before securing a move to Chesterfield.
Togwell spoke of his delight at joining the Spireites. He said: “There’s a lot of ambition at the club and it certainly matches my ambition.”
