Chesterfield reserves will play in the Central League this season.
The first match is away at Hartlepool at the end of August, with the date to be confirmed.
Other teams they will face include Hull City, Rotherham United, Bradford City and Mansfield Town.
Spireites chief executive Chris Turner explained the thinking behind the decision to compete in the Central League.
He said: “Central League matches will be more competitive because playing in friendly games last season was a bit hit and miss.
“The games will help develop the young players and keep senior players match-sharp.”
Central League officials allow clubs to arrange the dates and times of fixtures.
“This provides some flexibility so that the games are played at mutually convenient times,” explained Turner. “Our home games will be played at the B2net, predominantly on Tuesday afternoons at 2pm.”
