Tommy Wright has been named caretaker-manager of Chesterfield following John Sheridan’s departure earlier today.
Wright, who was Sheridan’s assistant, will be assisted by coach Mark Crossley.
Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner said: “Tommy will take charge of the first-team for the forseeable future.
"We need to take stock of the situation so we are not looking to make an immediate appointment.
“The board would like to thank John for the hard work he has put in over the last three years and wish him well for the future.”
Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Rotherham United left the Spireites with just two points from their opening three League Two fixtures.
They were also knocked-out of the Capital One Cup in the first round after losing at home to Tranmere Rovers.
