Chesterfield begin their League Two campaign away at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, August 18 and manager John Sheridan know's the importance of getting off to a positive start.

Sheridan was disappointed following the 2-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers in the Capital One Cup and is keen to ensure that the his side give a better showing in London.

Speaking to Spireites Player ahead of the match he said: “I’m very excited; the most important thing is to get off to a good start and hit the ground running.

“It’ll be a very tough game, they’re a good team and they play good football.

“It doesn’t matter where you go; every game is going to be difficult so we’ve got to go there prepared.

“I think it’s important that we go into every game and try to pick up three points.”

Although the manager is expecting a tough test from AFC Wimbledon, he believes that a winning start would give everyone something to build on.

When asked about how important a winning start would be, he said: “Very important; it gives everybody a boost and a buzz.

“Obviously there is nothing better than winning so it’s important that we get off to a positive start.”
