Academy Notes - August 20

20 August 2012

Sponsored by

Chesterfield Centre of Excellence has now changed to an Academy, So what does this mean? There are 4 categories of Academies which start from 1 to 4, we will be a category 3 Academy. Categories 1 to 3 have age groups from under 9s to under  18s plus 17 to 21 development squad, category 4 will only have an under 18 Youth team squad. We will carry on with the development centre (under 5s to 8s) which we have been running for the last few years at Chesterfield College.

The Academy started back on the August 14, all the squads had fitness testing at Clowne College with Pro Football support who are in charge of our sports science programme. The Academy players all had pre-season programmes to follow leading up to the started date on the 14th August. Each player will have an individual online training programme designed for them dependant on the outcome of their fitness test results. The players performed well overall, we will be able to see how well they progress during the season, the next two fitness test will highlight how well they have move on since the initial test. We hope the introduction of the sports science programme will add another dimension to the Academy programme. Ability alone is not enough in modern football, the physical and psychological demands of the game are needed too.

The Academy fixtures start on the 2nd September against Lincoln City at Warminster, the players have worked very hard so far over the summer period. They need to keep this work ethic coupled with playing ability into the fixtures over the whole season. The move up to the next age group is always a big test for players every year, some find it difficult and some players adapted very well. Those who adapted the quickest are normally the ones who progress the best, but there are occasions were the late developer comes through.

If anyone would like to sponsor Chesterfield Academy please contact me, Dave Bentley, Mick Beddingham or Chris Breeze at the Football Club.

Enjoy the Game
