Team News

Chesterfield will be without defender Scott Wiseman, who serves a one-match ban after his dismissal at the weekend.

Manager Jack Lester will also be without the services of injured duo Jordan Flores and Gozie Ugwu. While Matt Briggs misses out for family reasons.

Forest Green have no new injury worries ahead of their first visit to the Proact.

One-time Spireites loanee Reece Brown could feature for the visitors once again, after his free kick lead to Alex Iacovitti’s winning goal against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

The opposition

Manager – Mark Cooper

Experienced manager Mark Cooper took over at the New Lawn in May 2016 and guided Rovers to promotion from the National League last season.

Following a third-place finish at the end of the season, Cooper masterminded the club’s play-off run, culminating in a 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers at Wembley.

Prior to his time in Gloucestershire, Cooper has managed numerous clubs across the football and national leagues including Peterborough United, Swindon Town and Notts County.

The son of former England and Leeds defender Terry Cooper, the Rovers boss enjoyed a 20-year playing career for the likes of Exeter City, Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town.

One to watch – Christian Doidge

Doidge joined the Green Devils in June 2016 from Dagenham & Redbridge and scored 27 goals in 43 appearances last term, including one in the playoff final at Wembley.

The striker started out his career at Southampton and Bristol Rovers, before spending time in the Welsh Premier League with Cwmbran Celtic, Croesyceillog and Carmarthen Town.

The Welshman has enjoyed a very good start to his campaign this season, with nine goals and two assists from 22 appearances and comes to the Proact in good form with four goals in his last three matches, including two against Crewe on Saturday.

Head to Head

As mentioned previously, tonight’s clash will be the first ever competitive meeting between the two sides.

Both teams suffered a slow start to the season, but have bounced back in recent weeks, with the Spireites now having lost only once in their last five meetings.

Rovers on the other hand have won four and drawn one of their last five League Two matches.

From the dugout

After Saturday’s victory over Exeter, Lester has challenged his squad to keep the momentum going when the Green Devils come to town tonight.

Though like the Spireites Cooper’s men have been performing well lately and Lester expects another entertaining fixture.

He said: “They’ve picked up really well, they had a difficult start – as did we – and are picking up – as are we.

“It’ll be a good game of football, we’re excited about it, it’s another home game and another chance for the fans to see where we’re trying to go with this and we’re more than ready for it.”

McCourt's Double Helps Spireites Win

22 November 2017

Jak McCourt scored twice as Chesterfield beat Forest Green Rovers 3-2 to record back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly a year.

The opening goal came 22 minutes in as Andy Kellett’s free-kick found McCourt whose glancing header managed to make its way past Bradley Collins in the Rovers goal.

Chesterfield then dominated the first half with multiple efforts from Kristian Dennis, the first a snap-shot after some delayed defending from Forest Green.

This was among several good saves made by Collins as the Spireites looked to extend their lead.

A half-time substitution saw Emmanuel Monthe come on for Drissa Traore, who had been booked. It only took Monthe three minutes to go one step further as his late challenge on Joe Rowley earned him a red card to reduce the visitors to ten men.

The Spireites were able to capitalise on the extra man with McCourt firing in his and Chesterfield’s second in the 54th minute. Collins got a hand to his effort but was unable to keep it out.

The visitors were given a lifeline when they pulled a goal back through Christian Doidge on the hour-mark. An error from Jerome Binnom-Williams allowed Dale Bennett to race clear on the right wing and his low cross was tapped in by the unmarked Doidge from close-range.

With nine minutes remaining, Dennis scored to restore Chesterfield's two-goal lead, finishing well after being set up by Joe Rowley. It was the striker's 13th goal of the season as he scored for the sixth game running.

Doidge grabbed his second goal of the game deep into added time, meeting Reece Brown's free-kick with a close-range header.
