Match Previews

PREVIEW: Grimsby Town

6 April 2018

The Spireites head to Grimsby Town today (3pm), for a huge Sky Bet League Two fixture. Here's our big match preview......

Tickets

This fixture is now all-ticket for Spireites supporters. Tickets are no longer available from the Chesterfield ticket office. Grimsby have advised us, however, that they will be taking phone orders for tickets up until 12noon. The tickets will then be available for collection from the ticket office at Blundell Park. Please phone 01472 605050 to order.

Team news

Chesterfield will be without long-term absentees Sam Hird, Giles Coke, Gozie Ugwu and Dylan Mottley-Henry. Both Ian Evatt and Jordan Sinnott have trained once again this week, but the match may still come too soon for the duo.

The opposition

Manager- Michael Jolley

One of the more bizarre routes into football management, Jolley began as a youth player at Barnsley. However, when that didn’t work out, he attended Cambridge University, gaining a degree in economics and playing for the university whilst there.

Having taken up various academy roles, his first senior role was with Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna, where he failed to keep the club in the top flight.

He moved to Grimsby last month, tasked with keeping the club in League Two.

One to Watch - Siriki Dembele

The 21-year old winger is getting his first taste of professional football with the Mariners and seems to be adapting well, having made 37 appearances for Grimsby this season, scoring four times.

He had previously been in negotiations with Barnsley and Huddersfield Town, however these moves fell through due to an injury he sustained whilst playing for the Nike Academy.

Head to Head

This will be the 92nd meeting between the two sides and it is Chesterfield’s opponents who have had the historical edge.

A full head to head is as follows:

Grimsby Town - 39 (wins)

Draws - 23

Chesterfield - 29 (wins)

The Spireites' most recent success at Blundell Park was a 1-0 win back in August 2008, with Jamie Ward netting the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute. Click on the link below to see Jamie's goal from that day.

From the dugout

Jack Lester said: "I like the pressure of games like this and we're certainly focused on what we need to do."
