Doncaster born, the central defender was signed to Aston Villa as a schoolboy before joining Leeds United’s academy. Made 5 sub appearances for Doncaster Rovers on loan from Leeds, whom he didn’t make a first team appearance for, before he moved permanently to Rovers in 2007.

Made his first start against Grimsby and less than 2 weeks later he was loaned out to the Mariners. Soon after his Rovers return, he started in their play-off win over ex-club Leeds to help Doncaster into the Championship. 


Was a regular at the Keepmoat until the summer of 2012 when he joined Chesterfield under John Sheridan. Was made available for transfer earlier in 2013 but his excellent subsequent form saw then manager Paul Cook remove him from the list and he was awarded a new 2 year deal in the summer of 2014 which was extended to 2017 in the summer. 


Also operates as a holding midfielder or right back. Scored the equaliser in the Championship clinching win over Fleetwood on the last day of 2013-14. Picked up a knee injury at the end of August last season but returned to fitness at the start of December and reached 100 club appearances in January 2015.
