Spireites 1 Rovers 0

Posted on: Tue 19 Jan 2010

The Spireites reserves earned another clean sheet and a well-deserved victory thanks to a second-half goal from Drew Talbot.  He headed home Alan Goodall's pin-point left wing cross to seal the win.

Talbot benefited by the run out following his absence through illness from the Spireites league game last weekend against Cheltenham Town.  Although on hand to score the winner in the 65th minute he spurned a number of other good chances that were created through the game.

Doncaster provided strong opposition but Chesterfield kept their shape and were worthy winners.

Aussie defender Aaron Downes got another 90 minutes match action under his belt and Lloyd Kerry was welcomed back to the fold following completion of his loan spell at Alfreton Town.

Chesterfield line-up:  Tommy Lee, Dan Gray, Aaron Downes, Kevin Austin, Alan Goodall, Drew Talbot, Derek Niven, Lloyd Kerry, Terrell Lewis, (sub Jordan Edridge 80), Martin Gritton, Scott Boden (sub Josh Wright 70).

Sub not used:  Matthew Needham

Match played at Saltergate on Wednesday 16 December 2009
