For the second game running Chesterfield had to come from a goal behind to seal all three points, with Sandy Moller's neat finish and Craig Clay's spot kick giving the Spireites victory in their last league match before the Christmas break.
Dave Bentley had no hesitation in naming the same eleven that made a superb comeback over the Bantams at Warminster Road last weekend. Ben Watkis slotted back into the diamond shaped midfield, while Tendayi Darikwa partnered Jordan Burrow in attack.
The pitch condition was much to be desired, but due to weather conditions and the location of the match, as much was to be expected.
The Spireites made the most promising start out of the two teams, but that was to soon change.
Jimmy Adcock's sprayed pass to his adjacent flank allowed Sam Smith to spread his legs and attack, with his cross finding Burrows movement. The striker's effort was deflected over for a corner to give the Spireites some early momentum.
Burrow's movement again found the big number 11 in space, but this time it was the Pool's goalkeeper who was equal to the chance as his acute angled effort was caught comfortable.
As it appeared to becoming a constructive first 10 minutes for the Spireites, the home side soon got their act together.
A free header on the back post off a Pools corner could have easily found its way into the net, but thankfully for Chesterfield's blushes the ball hit the top of the netting…and not the back.
Minutes later and the net was struck again, but this time it was the side netting that felt the force. After a slick Hartlepool move freed the left winger up for a decent opportunity, but the off target effort smashed against Scott Webb's side netting.
As Hartlepool's attacks were beginning to mount in such a small period of time, with each effort testing both Webb and the Spireites back four, it was becoming likely that a goal would a rise and it did in the 13th minute.
A cross fed into the Chesterfield box was held up by the Pools striker before laying off his team mate on the edge of the box whose right footed drive left Webb no chance, who was at full stretch.
The Spireites weren't to let this early goal effect their game and came back at full speed. Chris Tingay's 35 yard freekick produced the best out of the Pool's goalkeeper who was full stretch to deny the rightback from a terrific set piece finish.
Burrow and Adcock had headed chances moments later as Chesterfield's football was beginning to take shape and was free flowing throughout the park.
Despite Chesterfield's attacking players creating the opportunities, it was centre half Sandy Moller who showed them how to finish, when the defender's looping overheaded kick found its way into the goal off a Smith corner to level the match up on 23 minutes.
Smith, along with Tingay, were becoming a real nuisance for the opposition and a move on 30 minutes almost gave Chesterfield the lead. Smith's deadly cross into the Hartlepool area could have easily been finished by a hand full of red shirts, but the Spireites had to go in at the break equal.
After Moller's strike, the match seemed to transform from an open ended match to a more conservative game, with the scoreline inseparable going into the second half.
Webb was called into action on 54 minutes when a close range shot was held by the Spireite number one, who put an end to any real threat.
Off a cleared corner, Ryan Granger picked out Burrow, who turned his defender skilfully and hit a rasping shot that produced a quick reaction save for another corner.
Hartlepool weren't to let the same happen and off the consequential corner, lead an immediate counter attack which again forced Webb to save any danger, but this time with his leg. Off the Pools resulting corner, Webb had to flick the ball over the bar to set up yet another set piece after an effort on target.
Darikwa's initiative almost paid off in the 62nd minute, when he forced the Pools goalkeeper into panic mode after closing down quickly. As the ball came out it gifted Burrow the opportunity to lob the ball into the net, but the effort couldn't find the right side of the bar for Chesterfield.
When the chance did finally come Chesterfield's way to secure all three points, they took it with both hands.
As the referee pointed to the spot after a Pool player had handled in the area, Craig Clay took on the reasponsibility as captain. Despite the goalkeeper guessing the right way, Clay's spot kick was unbeatable to complete another Spireite comeback.
With just minutes on the clock, Jordan Edridge had the chance to make it two in two from the substitute's bench after Darikwa set up the midfielder for a close range effort, but the shot was sliced wide.
The missed chance didn't affect the match though, as the Spireites claimed another three points on their travels.
