Spireites 3 Magpies 3

Posted on: Mon 16 Nov 2009

A glut of six goals in an entertaining game from a spectators perspective, but the real highlight for the Spireites was the return to match action for Aaron Downes.  With 45 minutes of competitive football under his belt it is a key step on the road to recovery for the Aussie defender after being out for seven months following a serious knee injury.

Scott Boden fired the Spireites into an early lead when his deflected shot looped over the County 'keeper.  A bright first-half performance from Chesterfield led to a second when Paul Harsley slotted home from the penalty spot after Jordan Bowery had been fouled.

The Magpies, who were fielding several trialists, including a couple of former foreign internationals, pulled one back before the break.

They kept the impetus going with a couple more goals early in the second half to turn the game on its head as the Spireites performance faded.

But there was one more twist to the game when recent signing Terrell Lewis rose high at a corner to majestically thump home a header to give the Spireites a share of the spoils at 3-3.
