Tiger's end youth's unbeaten run

Chesterfield 0 Hull City 2

Chesterfield's unbeaten run of 10 matches finally came to an end when two first half strikes from Hull City condemned the Spireites to only their second defeat of the season.

Weather conditions seemed bleak for both sides prior to kick off with poor visibility becoming increasing worse.

The Tiger's impressive strike record was surly on Dave Bentley's mind before the match, with the visitors hitting the back of the net 23 times in their past five matches.

But it was the Spireites who angled the first effort on goal, when Tendayi Darikwa's strike through a mass of players off a cleared corner called the Tiger's keeper into action early on.

Hull didn't give Chesterfield the chance to mount another attack and immediately struck back testing Scott Webb's quick reaction up the opposite end, which Webb responded magnificently to tip the chance over the bar.

Webb was again called into action minutes later and again ended any chance of a goal with another close range stop.

On 10 minutes however, Webb couldn't stop the Tiger's third attack of the match as the visitors took the lead off a well worked set piece. A well engineered free kick picked out an unmarked City player at the back stick to head past Webb at his near post.

Chesterfield didn't wait on ceremony to strike back and almost levelled the game up through winger Jimmy Adcock. Craig Clay's perfectly weighted ball from inside his own half picked out Adcock, who proceeded to attack towards goal, but unfortunately his effort crashed against the side netting.

Bentley's side were still having problems at the back with the visitor's capitalising on this on 28 minutes. A long ball over the top seemed to confuse Sandy Moller and Matt Needham, who allowed the City striker to collect the loose ball and let a rasping shot rip, but Webb was again on form to deny a second.

Darikwa linked up with midfield partner Clay to feed Adcock through on the left, but again the number eight could only direct his effort to the side netting.

The Spireites were punished for lack lusting efforts throughout the team when the visitors doubled their lead ten minutes before the break. Again another set piece proved to be too much for Chesterfield as a corner somehow found an amber shirt, whose half volley was easily converted.

Hull held their positions with such strength in the second half and looked like a side determined not to let a two goal deficit go to waste.

Sam Smith almost made it two goals in two matches and forced the Hull goal keeper into a good save as Chesterfield searched for a way back into what was beginning to look a done deal.

Darikwa's 70th minute effort was blasted straight at the Hull number one after Ryan Granger's cross picked out the attacking midfielder.

Chesterfield's final delivery never improved as the visitors ended Bentley's good run of form, which surly must get the Spireites asking questions about their performance prior to Tuesday's local derby against Mansfield Town.
