The Spireites youth team, sponsored by D C Jones Insurance Services, are through to round two of the Midland Youth Cup after a 2-1 extra time victory over Kidderminster Harriers at Saltergate on Tuesday 13 October.

After falling behind in the first half Chesterfield left it late with an 82nd minute equalising header from Matt Needham to send the game into extra time.

Tendayi Darikwa sealed the victory with a fine late winner as the gallant visitors started to flag.

Last season the Spireites youngsters lost in the first round 2-1 at home to Grimsby Town.

In season 2007-08 the youth team made it to the semi-finals by beating Hinckley United and Cheltenham, losing 2-0 to Lincoln City.
