An enthusiastic Chesterfield came rushing out of the starting blocks like a steam train as Dave Bentley's side played their best football of the season so far.

Chesterfield took a well deserved early lead through a finely executed finish by winger Sam Smith just three minutes into the game.

The Spireites seemed fired up more than usual for today's match and their aggressive play continued as Craig Clay fired a decent shot from outside the box, but the Lincoln keeper held comfortably to keep the score's level.

The visitors' weren't prepared to just sit back and allow Chesterfield attack so freely and produced a few half chances, but the Spireite partnership of Sandy Moller and Matt Needham ended any impending threats.

Attacking midfielder Jimmy Adcock linked up well with Josh Wright on the left before whipping the ball in for Burrow, who had lost his defender, but only to put wide.

Ryan Granger's 24th minute strike summed up the theme of the opening quarter as Chesterfield had really found second gear.

And this was backed up just moments later when Josh Wright's dipping shot over the dazed Lincoln goalkeeper somehow found the net to add to his already healthy tally for the season.

An off the ball incident occurred just a minute after Wright's goal that involved the referee flashing four yellow cards in total, with Burrow and Clay both being cautioned.

The visitors must have had the team talk from hell, but it certainly did the trick and were awarded a penalty just three minutes after the re start. Smith's challenge inside the penalty box ended with the Imps captain converting from the spot despite Scott Webb almost getting a hand to it.

With just goal in it, both teams looked to add another to the score line. Burrow's constant hounding of the Imps last man paid off in the 56th minute and unselfishly tried to find strike partner Wright, but the pacey forward couldn't quite latch on to it.

Another booking for the visitors showed the frustration that was growing as the match progressed.

Again, Burrow's impressive workload paid off as a mistake by the City defender allowed Burrow the opportunity to close down on goal, but a back tracked tackle resulted in the ball falling loose, where Tendayi Darikwa slotted home to put the game out of Lincoln's reach with just nine minutes left.

Chesterfield now extend their unbeaten run to six matches with Bentley's side only conceding three goals in seven games.
