Dominance and power were yet again the deciding factor as Chesterfield's young side fell victim to an experienced Glapwell FC squad at Hall Corner. With John Sheridan practically fielding every available first team player in last night's victory over neighbour's Matlock Town, today's clash against the Well turned into another intricate fixture for Dave Bentley's youth team.
After conceding three goals in midweek against a powerful Hucknall Town side, the Spireites knew that today's opponents would be of a similar quality, which came apparent immediately.
The Spireites started the match brightly, similar to the first 15 against the Yellows, creating the first dangerous effort on goal of the game. Winger Sam Smith and wingback Chris Tingay's well executed move down the left created an opening for Tingay, who delivered a testing ball into the opposition's box and with Jordan Burrow beating his defender to the ball, his header went scarcely over ex Spireite Andy Richmond's cross bar.
Just moments later, Smith and Tingay connected again down the left, but this time Richmond collected the ball with ease.

Chesterfield were punished for not making their early efforts count, as Glapwell immediately took the ball down the other end and opened the scoring through another ex Spireite, Neil Grayson. The 44 year old prolific goal scorer headed home the easiest of chances after some poor defending by Chesterfield, which allowed Jack Muldoon the time to pick out Grayson in the penalty box.

Before Chesterfield had a chance to re group, the Spireites found themselves another goal down. Again, it was another header which caused the damage. After a long throw in on the right found its way to the head of Matt Varley, his flick on set up Ian Brown to double the home side's score from close range. The Spireites had now made the game even more difficult for themselves, but only they were to blame for the inconsistency they were producing.
A counter attack initiated by Craig Clay resulted in a wasted opportunity by striker Ben Watkis after Burrow had fed the striker through. The Spireites were almost punished for their lack of finishing, as Brown took the ball down the opposite end and almost added another to Glapwell's ever increasing tally.
Chesterfield finally began to regain some composure and talented midfielder, Tendayi Darikwa, produced a clever little run in the middle of the park which was finished with a neat through ball to Watkis, but Richmond closed down any potential attack with great speed.
Sandy Moller's pass back to Scott Webb looked routine until the keeper's inexperience led to the ball falling to the feet of Grayson. The striker had two close range shots but Webb made a mend for himself by pulling off two superb reaction saves to deny the Grayson any goal scoring glory.
Sloppy passing and poor distribution cost the Spireites significantly, as Glapwell set a massive uphill challenge for Chesterfield by scoring their third goal of the game minutes before the half time interval. It seemed that Sam Clare had done enough to keep Brown at bay, but the strong striker's side footed shot beat both Clare and the fully stretched Webb, with neither having a chance. It was no more than what Glapwell deserved after having a large procession of play during the build up.

Chesterfield made changes as the second half kicked off and seemed to hold up Glapwell more, but were still being out battled in aerial encounters.
In a dead period of 15 minutes after the start of the second half, neither side really took hold of the game and seemed happy to settle with the way things was.
Varley and Grayson were again causing problems at the back for the Spireites, but substitutes Gerome Palmer and Matthew Needham held their ground well.
Chesterfield's best chance of the half came 10 minutes from the end, when Burrow, who had received limit service all match, made himself space on the left. As the first year scholar cut inside and tried a right footed shot, his effort eluded both the goalkeeper and the far post.
Grayson continued to push for more goals, but it wasn't to be as Chesterfield's blushes were saved by the strikers freak off day.
In the end, the result was a fair reflection on the game, as Chesterfield's boys couldn't cut it against an experienced Glapwell side.
