Youth team in action tonight

Posted on: Sat 01 Aug 2009

As the senior side continue its busy schedule of pre-season fixtures, Dave Bentley's young guns begin their programme with an away game against Hucknall Town FC on Thursday night.

The last time the Spireites youth team were in action together was a lengthy 12 weeks ago, when a Jordan Bowery hat tick sealed the League title for Chesterfield, with a vital 3-1 away win over York City.

Bowery, alongside Matt Malak, were handed professional contracts by Chesterfield, but with the rest of last season's second year scholars departing Saltergate, nine new faces are gifted the opportunity to wear the blue shirt.

The Yellow's ended last season's league campaign with relegation, but Bryan Chambers and his side hope to bounce straight back and are yet to be unbeaten in four pre season fixtures already, scoring 18 goals along the way.

Bentley, alongside the knowledgeable Mark Jules, will be looking to improve match fitness amongst players and experiment, rather than concentrate on the result.

One face that will be no stranger to Bentley and Jules, is Reuben Wiggins-Thomas, who spent two years under the watchful eyes of the dynamic duo before signing a contract with Hucknall Town earlier this year.

All of the second year scholars were involved in John Sheridan's squad that faced Garforth Town on Monday night, with centre back Sandy Moller getting on the score sheet in the process.

Meanwhile, Tendayi Darika had a second-half run out with the first team against Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

Thursday night's match will be played at Hucknall Town's ground, which is on Watnall Road, NG15 6EY and will kick off at 7.30pm.
