Bentley had fresh injury problems to worry about, with Bowery not being able to train all week after picking up a knock against Rotherham last weekend and midfield general Craig Clay being sent home just an hour before the kick off with a suspected bug.

Chris Tingay slotted in for the absent Clay and Bowery's injury had seemed to improved as the forward started the match. Lincoln had a dream start against top of the league Chesterfield, when after eight minutes they took the lead. Sloppy defending by the Spireites led to the Imps scoring from close range off an in swinging corner.

Chesterfield produced limited football in the opening half hour with the whole team looking static throughout. It took 30 minutes for the home side to manage a shot on target and even that didn't trouble the keeper too much. Despite their sluggish start to the game, the Spireites managed to level the score just moments later through a mistake at the visitors back.

A long ball over the top, directed at Bowery, forced the Lincoln number one to race off his line but the Imps keeper miss timed the challenge and completely missed the tackle.Bowery continued on route with the goal completely empty but the Imps centre half had also tracked back with the Spireite number 10. Fortunately Bowery remained strong and stabbed the ball towards goal after receiving a challenge, by this time the keeper was about to retrieve the ball but stationed on the floor, Bowery had another bite of the apple and managed to put the ball into the net.

Just minutes later Bowery was at it again and almost put the Spireites in the lead after Tendayi Darikwa's clever ball over the top, unfortunately the shot was well off cue.The visitors had a chance just before the half time whistle was blown, when a free kick picked out an Imp player free in the area, but he couldn't manage any contact or it would of surely been a goal.

Chesterfield immediately looked  a different side in the second half and just after eight minutes of the re start, winger Ross Burns set up Bowery for his second of the match. Burns's pass over the top was intercepted by an Imp head who tried to play the ball back to the goalkeeper but Bowery had anticipated the pass and intercepted it just inches before the keeper could get to it.

Bowery knocked the ball past and from an acute angle slotted the ball into the goal for Chesterfield's second of the match.Tingay came close to increasing the Spireites lead with a 25 yard effort but the keeper held well to deny Chesterfield. The Spireites were now in full control of the game and began to pass the ball around with more freedom. A pumped ball up field found powerhouse Adam Smith who held the ball up and laid Bowery off on the right wing. Smith lost his defender and continued his run into the box where Bowery picked his striker partner out for a shooting opportunity, but the Imps goalkeeper did well to save the chance, which almost fell to Jimmy Adcock on the rebound.

The visitors were not completely dead and buried and with just 20 minutes on the clock forced Matt Malak into a trio of saves that kept the Spireites in the game. Malak tipped a close range header over the bar for a corner and from the resulting corner pulled off a fantastic stretched save. Bentley introduced youngsters Sam Smith and Jordan Burrow into the match to replace Bowery and Burns who had played a major part in the Spireite comeback. The final whistle was meet with cheers from the Spireites as they know just two more victories would give them the league title.
