Spireite Youths 1 Tigers Youths 0
Jordan Bowery's second half strike ensured that the Spireites maintained their current good run of form, which now sees them without a defeat since January 3rd. Last year's League winners Hull City never really troubled a well organised Chesterfield side who knew that three points were vital if they were to make the League title a possibility come the end of April.
"Four more games…we can do it" were the words from captain Richie Holmes during the pre match team huddle and from the kick off you never really doubted him.
Tendayi Darikwa was unlucky not to put the Spireites ahead after just 14 minutes of play, when Ryan Granger's cross found the head of Darikwa, who headed the ball into the ground, but the Hull City goalkeeper did well to push it over the bar.
The match was anticipated before hand as potentially being a very physical battle and it didn't let down any expectations, with the referee having to stop play twice in the opening 25 minutes for players feeling the pinch.
The visitors frustration began to grow as Chesterfield's back four muscled anything that came their way with Ross Burns and Holmes playing impeccable at the heart of the Spireite defence.
Both teams went in at half time without really creating anything of significance.
Dominating the first half, Chesterfield knew they had to find second gear if they were to beat last years league winners.
Darikwa, like he as so many times this year, found winger Jimmy Adcock on the left hand side, but the number eight couldn't quite get enough on the shot to test the keeper.
It didn't matter too much though because three minutes later Chesterfield took the lead through striker Jordan Bowery.
Darikwa's low driven shot was saved by the Hull number one, who got down to his left well but none of the Tiger's defence reacted as quick as Bowery who powered in, on the right from close range.
Hull City retaliated immediately and Chesterfield were let off the hook as a free header from the visitors failed to hit the target as the Spireites were caught napping.
Dave Bentley's side soon found their stride again and began to create more attacking play, but the wind factor was against the Blues.
It was Chesterfield's turn to have a free header this time, but unfortunately Bowery couldn't direct his effort on target after Granger's ball picked the forward out.
Bowery's striking partner Adam Smith had a decent chance in the 68th minute, to make it two after a loose ball found its self at his feet.
Smith turned his defender and hit a rocket shot at the keeper's near post, but the goalkeeper did well to turn it away for a corner.
Just as in the first half, Hull's frustration continued to grow and saw boiling point as the visitors received a booking after constant abuse towards the referee and his officials.
With the wind still against them, Chesterfield were always going to find it more difficult but thanks to the safe hands of Matt Malak, Hull were kept at bay.
Malak, was called in to action on three different occasions in the space of five minutes as the visitors began to push on, but the Spireite number one proved his worth after being a spectator for most of the game.
Hull still continued to voice their opinions of disgust towards to referee and his officials and with one minute to go, received yet another booking for this.
As the final whistle blew, the Spireites ran out clear winners with a well deserved three points, which saw Dave Bentley's celebrating and Hull's side still questioning the referee.
Afterwards Chesterfield Youth Manager Dave Bentley was pleased with the result "I thought it was a very tight game, the first half was very competitive as we expected with Hull coming and playing decent football. I thought we just had that little bit more and played some better football. We had a good opportunity to take the lead in the first half with Darikwa in the box with a header, so we could have gone in leading at half time. The second period, we knew we would be in for a bit more of a challenge because they had the wind behind them. Credit to the boys, they dug in really hard and kept a clean sheet and then there was a battle in their box, with the ball falling out to Bowery and he stuck it in"
