After taking a two goal lead through Adam Smith and Bruce Dyer, the reserves were undeservedly pipped by two late goals and lost 4-2 in a lively practice game against Middlesbrough Reserves.

The game was played in three 30 minute sessions at Boro's training complex near Darlington with the Spireites putting in an upbeat performance that surprised their hosts.

Chesterfield was one nil up after the first session thanks to a close range tap-in by Adam Smith from Bruce Dyer's assist.

In the second session the Blues were still in the driving seat and hit the bar four times before Bruce Dyer drilled the ball home after Lloyd Kerry's shot ricocheted off the cross bar.  Boro managed to pull a goal back at the end of this session thanks to a free kick.

Middlesbrough loanee Graham Owens came on for the third session after recovering from his recent injury which has kept him out of Chesterfield's first team squad and he looked lively.

Two late goals for Boro turned the game on its head.  After losing possession a quick break caught out the Blues defence and forced Alan O'Hare into a desperate challenge on £40,000 a week Spaniard Gaijka Mendieta, which ended with a penalty being awarded and taken.

Within two minutes Boro scored from another breakaway through Dong Gook Lee, who went on to get his second and Boro's fourth but the final result doesn't disguise a really good workout for the lads.
